Wow, this one is truly Amayzin’

Wow, this one is truly Amayzin’ … I don’t have the autotune plugin, so I just tweaked the lead vocal using reverb plugins. it turned out amayzinly… btw, 73 bpm if you want to turn this one into a dubstep anthem.

sha ma ha ma la ma daba dah, something with a door

I have been accused of not knowing the lyrics to songs and then babbling at random times during group singing sessions.

Oh yeah? well here is a a cover song that I recorded tonight, that  may or may not derive most of its value through nonsensical lyrics and mumbling!

Mumbling in the right place.mp3 (recorded and mixed at sceneonestudios on May 16, 2010)

Background:

If you did not know the song, the original Radiohead song (Wikipedia: Everything in its right place) is youtubed below:

Drop the Noodle Song Challenge #1

Everyone is a winner, but some people are more winsome than others

To test this theory, sceneonestudios.com is having a contest… we will select  three teams and challenge them to create songs. The entries will be posted on this site, the voting public will comment on these songs, and some arbitrary process will be used to select a winner.

Song Challenge #1: “May Two”.… Teams will have to write two songs during May 2010, including: (a) an original song with lyrics and tune composed by team members, and (b)  a cover version of any song written in the last 30 years.

Teams: The teams for Challenge #1 will be as follows:

  • Team Aaron: (Aaron and Robin)
  • Team Mark: (Mark and Kerri)
  • Team Benji: (Benji and Becca and Kim and Tim)

Special Rules:

  • you can practice as much as you want, but each song submission must be recorded all in one day. You can take extra time to mix and convert etc.
  • Maximum of FOUR tracks to be used for the final cut.
  • all submissions must be delivered via gmail or an online web link in .mp3 or .wav format
  • all submissions must be received by the other teams by Friday May 28, 2010
  • Exceptions to these rules must be cleared with the other two teams

Perhaps Aaron can set up some doodad that has people vote for their favorite team, and the become a ‘liker’ of their favorite team on facebook, and then we can see who wins, for example by seeing whether “Team Aaron” has more members than “Team Benji”

This is ridiculous.

REMEMBER… this is about having fun and not winning per se.

Lost My Heart to a Cake Bet

Lost My Heart to a Cake Bet.mp3

[Verse 1]

If I think hard, I think it was a summer day

Way back yonder near towards the end of May

I had a couple a friends up near my way

On a rooftop party, was a windy Saturday

I made up the table and set out the snacks

I had information, elevation of Richmond’s highest facts

The noisy rooftop crowd started getting real loud

So I raised my glass to a toast to calm ‘em down

[Pre-Chorus]

I said here ye’ here ye’, raise up yer glasses and hear me

I’ve got a brand new toast and I don’t mean to boast

But this is my history prize, and yer about to see why

We raised our glasses and toasted to the sky

[Chorus]

See, I bet you and you bet me

I know way more about the River City

So here’s a toast and the winner can boast

They’ll be the king for sure, and it’s gonna be me

[Verse 2]

Now, the crowd was laughing and they were sure

I’d make a fool of myself and eat my words real good

But I can tell you a thing or two I know

Take this little ditty, a piece a hist’ry gold

Did you know, and a lot of people don’t

That the foundry by the river use to burn with coal

Rhys Davies was a Welshman, and lemme tell ya folks

What he built then later became Tredegar Iron Works

Everybody knows that and don’t call me a fool

Stepped up a young lady who was sitting on a stool

Yer, just a chump and ya seem real lost

Did you know, Landmark, useda be called the Mosque?

[Chorus]

See, I bet you and you bet me

I know way more about the River City

So here’s a toast and the winner can boast

They’ll be the king for sure, and it’s gonna be me

[Verse 3]

Oh that one’s to easy, and don’t try to sway me

I got more Richmond knowledge the Wilder’s granbaby

Mosque is chump change, and but here’s a fact

Short pump used to be a field, where the mall is sat.

Out jumped another man, a glass a wine in his hand

He said, short pump’s for sissys, but did ya know the real meaning

Of three chopt road, that cuts across all lanes?

It was named for the 3 marks in a trees by our Indian friends

Now out from the crowd arose a young lady

Wore a fancy dress and approached me bravely

She said I got one that’s gonna make yer head spin

And I doubt, you know this, so I know I’m gonna win

Did you know, and a lot of people don’t

The sunken mall in byrd park it looks like a moat

But it wasn’t a moat, and they was gonna try to fill it

But they ran outta money, and the pool they never built it

[Chorus]

See, I bet you and you bet me

I know way more about the River City

So here’s a toast and the winner can boast

They’ll be the king for sure, and it’s gonna be me

[Verse 4]

Well here was my chance and I ain’t one for romance

But I knew I loved this city, it’s where my heart belongs

So I raised my glass high and yelled to the top of my lungs

This next fact, is a counterattack, I’ll bet a cake on this one

I’m bout to knock your sox off with this fun fax face off

Let’s track it back to the fact you said, I’m gonna win it all

Everybody knows them gardens was supposed to be a pool,

Did you know the Carillon used to be a civil war hospital?

[Bridge]

And what happened next I’m trying to blot from my mind

I had no idea there was an app for the times

A serious fact checker hushed the crowd with what he said

“Actually, it was a memorial for the World War 1 dead”

So I toasted the girl, and the girl won.

It was all too much for me being scene one

Now I lost the city, my heart was RVA

Lost it all to a fax cake bet I made

[Chorus]

See, I bet you and you bet me

I know way more about the River City

So here’s a toast and the winner can boast

They’ll be the king for sure, and it’s gonna be me

Raise the Roof Marko!

Raise the Roof, MARKO!.mp3

[yelling rapper voice]

Listen up RVA!
We got a new kid in town
this studio busker, history hustler
starbucks guzzler’s bout to draw a crowd . . .

[verse 1]

He came to drop bombs, he came to write songs
Ya wanna rock a rooftop, call schairbaum
I know he’s just a man, but you ever seen this dude with a guitar in his hands?

He’s got a mic set, two step, three and to the four
sha ma ha ma la ma daba dah, something with a door

He aint a figment of your imagination
But he edits wikipedia for recreation
a phi beta kappa, growed up a wolverine
I’m telling you now, this kid is the dream!

[Chorus]

So when I say Marko
You say – Hey Yo!

Marko — Hey Yo
Marko — Hey Yo

And when I say Ottoman
You say – For the Win!

Ottoman — For the Win
Ottoman — For the Win

[verse 2]

he hails from a state that looks like a hand
and even in the summers you wanna stay on dry land
motor city, river city, he’s got a mind full of maps

and if you need to know, he’s full of fun fax!

raise your glass to toast, this kid’s the real deal
look him in the eye, cheers to every meal
I take one sip now [sip] I take one sip later [sip]
if i keep sippin, i’ll be drippin’ on the ottoman chair leather

[Chorus]

So when I say Marko
You say – Hey Yo!

Marko — Hey Yo
Marko — Hey Yo

And when I say Ottoman
You say – For the Win!

Ottoman — For the Win
Ottoman — For the Win

[verse 3]

so give him the greenlight, heck give him any light
he can roll thru the stops like Poe with macabre
land of the brave, home of the free
Marko is a man who’s gonna rule this city.

We gonna raise the roof
We gonna give you the proof
you need a whiteboard drawler’?

basketball bawler’, car pool caller

kid with a mic that’s gonna be up all night?

Then you better call the man, with the plan on his hand

[Chorus]

So when I say Marko
You say – Hey Yo!

Marko — Hey Yo
Marko — Hey Yo

And when I say Ottoman
You say – For the Win!

Ottoman — For the Win
Ottoman — For the Win
